The Swartland enjoys a special place in South Africa’s cultural tapestry. The best aspects of this reputation are all part of Porterville. The earth nurtures vast fields of wheat and grain, while the land harbours warmly individualistic people. Traditional values flourish in its safe, untroubled streets; finding voice in unique turns of phrase.

Pleasure seekers make their way here for other reasons. Known as “The Little Town with the Big Sky,” Porterville regularly hosts paragliders off to ride the thermals at the Dasklip Pass. The mountains also offer a wealth of exquisite trails for hikers, bikers and 4x4 enthusiasts; and are rich in ancient rock art.

The Berg river flows nearby, rich in Black Bass and Carp, and is well known as a peaceful and provident angling opportunity. The golf course is in good condition, and visitors have many positive things to say about its challenges. With wine cellars and the Groot Winterhoek Nature Reserve in the mix, you are invited to live in town and still commune with nature.
